The Cubs and 3rd year Beavers are looking forward to a spring camp. The
Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and leaders are also looking forward to
an up coming barbeque and camp fire with other groups from East
Scarborough.
The 2nd Highland Creek Cubs competed with the rest of East Scarborough
Cubs and won the Cub car race. They competed against Agincourt and West
Scarborough Area Cubs.
The Beavers went to Morningside Park and learned about wildlife in the
city.
Cubs and Scouts went to Queen's Park and met both Dalton McGuinty and the
speaker of the house Michael Brown which is a something most tours don’t
get the chance to do. Even the tour guide was surprised!
The Army Cadets went to Fort George in Niagara-on-the-lake
for a sleep over in the Soldier's barracks and got a taste of what it was
like to be a soldier in the War of 1812. Everyone enjoyed sight seeing in
Niagara Falls.
The “Bird House Building” went over well! All the participants had fun
and brought home a bird house. We were very lucky that the kids hit the
nails and NOT the parents’ fingers that were holding the nails.

Centennial Youth Raises
$4,500 for Lupus Research
Posted Mar.08
Bill
Bryan an 18yr old Centennial community resident of the 1st
Highland Creek Rover crew at St Dunstan’s Church recently decided to
organize the TORONTO TIRECRAFT GRANPRIX as a fundraiser for Lupus
Research. He discovered that one of his fellow track marshals at
Mosport International Raceway had lupus. Bill also wanted a quest for
his Rover Crew Investiture.
The event on March 1st
involved a
200 lap go cart race at Family Cartways in Brampton. Forty race drivers
(novice, amateur and professional) raced to raise money and awareness of
Lupus Research. Bill got some help and guidance from his friend Pat
Bayman, who has Lupus, and a local race driver Nick Majors. Bill used
his contacts from Mosport, where he spends his summers volunteering
doing timing and track side safety for various amateur and professional
road racing events. He contacted local businesses like Toronto
Motorsports Collectables in the Ravine Park Plaza and Tirecraft for
support and sponsorship.
Bill’s
goal was to raise at least $2000 for the Lupus Flare Foundation and in
the end was able to raise over $4,500. The race had high school
students competing with regional race drivers and professional drivers
from Grand Am, Speed World Challenge, and the Canadian Tire Nascar
series.
Bill is
already busy planning next year’s TORONTO TIRECRAFT GRANDPRIX and hopes
to make it even better and more profitable (it couldn’t be more fun).
I would
like to congratulate Bill for his success in organizing this event and
raising double his goal amount.
Bill's
advice to anyone else doing a fund raiser or planning an event
“Start
with what you love, follow your dreams, and as in “Scouting” Do Your
Best”
