Manson Project Update: May 23, 2002

Further to the Update of yesterday (dated May 22, 2002), MOEE has provided the following additional information.

By a letter dated May 22, 2002, MOEE has informed the proponent that:

- The proponent must submit to MOEE a detailed plan of how they plan to separate and remove concrete that is attached to the transite pipe.

- A trained and skilled employee of Candec Consultants Limited shall be present on the site to witness the removal of transite from the site. The concrete intended to be removed off site for recycling must not contain any contaminants including asbestos. All wastes must be handled, stored and disposed off in accordance with all applicable legislation.

Ed. notes: The Ministry is telling the proponent what to do!

To quote the Ministry directly "The management of the site remains with the property owner and those undertaking the work. The audit does not eliminate the need for decision making or the use of professional skills and judgement to ensure that the site is suitable for the intended use."

It's about time there was some professional skill and judgement applied in this continuing fiasco.
