Does Anybody Know - Part 4

e-mail from Steve Gilchrist: sent May 14, 2002

Dear Gay:

We have received word back from the MOE officials that what transpired was the removal of garbage from the site, not asbestos. The MOE was aware of the situation and ensured that no controlled substances were part of the clean-up.

Thank you for your ongoing vigilance and, now that I am the Parliamentary Assistant to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, I will have even more opportunities to ensure that we are kept fully apprised of any progress at the site.

Regards,

J.S. (Steve) Gilchrist

Hi Steve [Gilchrist]

Thanks for getting back to me on the latest Manson issue.

As I hadn't had any response from Allison Lee-Lai of the MOE, I e-mailed her again today (copied to you) and will attach her reply. It would appear that, after my request, she is attempting to get clarification of "garbage and debris" from the consultant. I recognize that "garbage" removal from the site is indeed a neighbourly gesture, but I am completely mystified by the fact that those picking up the "garbage" were so selective. My contacts tell me that they watched as those on site picked items from the ground, examined each item, dropped some back on the ground, but bagged others. Sorry, Steve, but it just doesn't make sense. I have never known anybody clean up "garbage" using that particular method, which is why I requested further details from Allison. They cynic in me wonders if it is possible that they picked up, and removed, wool from the site and are now using it in the proverbial manner?

Regards,
