CCRA Vice President Jeff Forsyth: October 2003
Our annual general meeting was held on October 16th, 2003. Thanks for all who took the time to attend. The following were elected to the 2004 executive.
The preliminary hearing before the Ontario Municipal Board to deal with environmental issues regarding the Manson site, took place on September 10th, 2003. The CCRA was represented at the hearing. The formal hearing is scheduled to be held in early January 2004. The Ministry of the Environment conducted an audit of the cleanup and in May 2003 issued a letter to the developer Yellow Moon, indicating that the cleanup work had followed the ministry guidelines. In July 2003 additional transite pipe was found on the site. We were not informed of this discovery until early September. At the preliminary hearing, the Ontario Municipal Board indicated it was satisfied with the audit report from the Ministry of the Environment. The City of Toronto and the Ministry of Environment have indicated they will not be present at the hearing. In view of this we are evaluating our position. We feel it is only prudent to formally advise potential house purchasers that the site was a former manufacturing facility that used asbestos. Jeff Forsyth
