CCRA Vice President
Jeff Forsyth: September 2003

Bob Baron

This month we have a number of activities and events taking place. On Saturday April 12th, 2003 we have our annual 50's dance. As usual it is being held at the West Rouge Community Centre. Dinner will be served at 8:00 p.m. followed by dancing at 9:00 p.m. This is a great dance so why not get a table together with your neighbours and friends. Thanks to Joan Gruchy for making all the arrangements for this dance. Hope to see you all there.

Earth Day will be held in our community on Saturday April 26th, 2003. This is another community event supported by CCRA.

Our membership campaign will get underway in May. We still are in need of volunteers to assist in ensuring every household in our community is canvassed. If you can help us in this major fund raising effort please contact either myself or Curtis Gabriel. Contact information is located on page 3 of the newsletter.

We have received notice of a hearing before the Ontario Municipal Board regarding 32 Irvine Rd. Council approved 2 lots for this parcel of land, which conforms to the zoning bylaw. The owner had requested 3 lots and has appealed Council's decision to the Ontario Municipal Board. As has happened many times over the years the CCRA will once again be present before this provincial government agency to uphold the zoning bylaws of this community. The hearing will be held at 10:00a.m. Monday May 12th, 2003 at the Ontario Municipal Board office 655 Bay St. 16TH Floor Toronto, Ont.

I have been advised by Councillor Moeser's office that the city is studying installing 2 left turn lanes for westbound Hwy 2 traffic at Port Union Rd. At this stage alternatives and estimates are being studied by the city. No firm plan has been recommended.

Work on the Village Common is set to resume once the warmer weather returns. Areas of salt and oil contamination were discovered which will be removed according to government regulations.

Work on the waterfront trail should resume once the weather warms up. The city has contributed all the funding for the work to this point. We continue to press the Toronto Revitalization Corporation for attention and action on the waterfront in our community. Despite environmental approval over a year ago this project still requires major funding from the provincial and federal governments.
