CCRA PRESIDENT
Gay Cowbourne: June 1999

  Summer's here!
Yes, the long, hot days of summer have finally arrived and those housebound days waiting for the snowplough are just another memory of the Winter of '99. Now, the flowers are blooming, the grass is green, backyard swimming pools are open and neighbours are spending time outside and chatting to each other after the long winter hibernation. Community summer events are another great way to meet up with friends and neighbours. Be sure to put these dates on your calendar.

Highland Creek Heritage Day and Parade
Saturday June 19. There will be a parade, barbecue, beer tent, kids activities and more.

Jazz Fest/Summer Concert Series
July 25, August 1 and 8. The plans have been finalized. The groups are booked and the venue is ready. See the Concert Series Advertisement for more information.

50th Anniversary Celebrations
October 16 is scheduled as the CCRA's 50th Anniversary Celebration Day. There will be a Fun Run and Walk in the morning, a dance in the evening and family events in the afternoon. (See Community Events article.) We need help to organize and run this special day. There are just 17 people on the Executive and we can't do it all. Please call me if you can spare some time between now and October 16 or if you have a few hours to help out on the day. (281-3221)

  Other News
Volunteer Appreciation night
This was held on April 29 and proved to be a great opportunity for distributors and canvassers to get together, enjoy a glass of wine, a cup of coffee, some cheese and crackers and good company. Thanks to everyone for making it a success and particularly to Marg Penny who, with help from Marilyn Hodge and others, planned and organized the event.

All Candidates Meeting
On May 31, the CCRA will co-host an All Candidate's Meeting. As always, we expect the event to be well attended and the question period lively. We look forward to working with the elected Member of Provincial Parliament in the years ahead. (result unknown as we go to press.)

CCRA Membership
In May and June our Membership team of hundreds, headed up by Marilyn Hodge, will be busy knocking on Centennial doors and asking you to join the CCRA for another year. The membership fee is the same - $8. If you haven't been a member in previous years, consider joining this year - the CCRA's 50th anniversary year.

Manson Demolition
Plans are underway to demolish the vacant Manson factory and to clean up the land. (See Planning Report for details.) The CCRA is, and always has been, committed to the health and safety of the community during this project. We are meeting with all of the parties concerned and will accept nothing less than guarantees that the asbestos removal will be safe for us all.
