On Thursday October 20th we will be holding our annual general meeting at Port Union Community Centre. From 7:00-7:30 P.M. you will have a chance to meet the executive members informally to discuss any issue you may have. The formal meeting will get underway at 7:30 p.m. A strong community association means a strong community. Please plan to attend and better yet, give consideration to serving on the executive. As mentioned in last month’s newsletter some members of the executive have indicated they will not be seeking re election for another term. Please consider standing for election for the 2006 executive. We meet once a month for 10 months (excluding July and August) on the first Tues of the month. Become involved in community affairs. Plan to attend and find out what your association executive has been doing for you over the past year. Find out what issues we face in our community. This is your opportunity to let the executive know what community issues concern you. Plan to attend.
On September 19 I attended a Waterfront Trail Working Committee meeting where we viewed the preliminary plan for the large area created in the lake at the end of Port Union Road that will be a focal point of the trail. We commented on the features shown on the plan. As a result of our comments and suggestions the plan will be revised to incorporate our suggestions. We will have these plans available for viewing at our annual general meeting and welcome you comments and input.
Paul Lewkowiz attended our last executive meeting to explain the Toronto Youth Cabinet and their attempts to bring youth of Toronto together to promote and raise issues that concern them. While this is organization has Toronto wide membership we felt the young people of our community should be made aware of its existence. Paul has placed an article in this month’s newsletter that better explains the Toronto Youth Cabinet. We look forward to hearing from Paul on a regular basis to ensure the youth of our community are
heard and made aware of issues that affect them.
Some of you may have seen the large waste bin located at the corner of Port Union Rd and Lawrence. This is a sample of the new waste bins the city is planning to place at various locations within the city.
Our membership campaign is still continuing. Thanks to all the canvassers for their hard work and members of the community who have purchased their membership. It is important that we have a strong membership to continue to sponsor community events and provide a strong voice for issues that affect our community.
Don’ forget our Annual General Meeting 7:30 p.m. Thursday October 20th at the Port Union Rec. Centre. Hope to meet you there.
