CCRA President Jeff Forsyth: July 2004
President's Report Posted Oct. 04 On Thurs. October 21st, 2004 we will be holding our Annual General Meeting. It will be held at the Port Union Rec. Centre and will get underway at 7:00p.m. There will be an opportunity to meet the executive between 7 and 7:30 p.m. and discuss any issues you may have. The formal part of the meeting will commence at 7:30 p.m. A strong community association means a strong community. Please plan to attend and better yet give consideration to serving on the executive. We meet once a month for 10 months (excluding July and August) on the first Tues of the month. Find out what your association executive has been doing for you over the past year. Find out what issues we face in our community. This is your opportunity to let the executive know what community issues concern you. On Fri. Sept. 17th, 2004 Planning Chair Kathy Sullivan and I met with our MPP Mary Anne Chambers to discuss our submission to Bill 26 and the Planning Act Review being undertaken by the provincial government. In our meeting we summarized our submission and emphasized that we hoped this review would result in a significant reduction in the role of the Ontario Municipal Board in the planning process. Any of you who may have ventured down to the bottom of Port Union Road will have noticed that the Village Common on the east side of Port Union is complete. This community has waited a long time for the Village Common to become a reality. The vision of a Village Common was first proposed in the early 1990’s when the Johns Manville site was sold for redevelopment. On Saturday October 16th, 2004 between 1-3 p.m. the City is planning to hold an official opening of the Village Common. Everyone is invited to attend. The remainder of the Village Common on the west side of Port Union Rd. cannot be completed until Yellow Moon conveys the property to the City. On September 25th, we held a community farewell party for CCRA founding member Bill Dempsey. Bill and his wife Evelyn will be moving to Manitoba later this fall to be closer to their family. Bill will be greatly missed by this community, as he was the driving force behind many of the amenities we enjoy in this community. Bill has a keen interest in watercourses and streams and the preservation of the streams in our community has long been a passion with him. All of us in the community wish Bill and Evelyn best wishes in their new community. The issue of the Wanita School site is still active. Kathy Sullivan has prepared an update on the status of this site. Her article is in this newsletter. Work on the Waterfront Trail continues. Our meeting with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority scheduled for Sept 27, 2004 was cancelled. We are awaiting a rescheduled date for this meeting. The placement of fill along the shoreline towards Highland Creek continues. Remember our Annual General Meeting 7:00 p.m. Thursday October 21st, 2004 at Port Union Recreation Centre. Hope to see you there. Jeff Forsyth |
