We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer.
Looking back to June there was an Open House on June 11 to allow the public to have a “sneak” preview of the Waterfront Trail. The trail is still under construction but this was an opportunity to walk the waterfront to see the progress. Once the trail is completed in about 2 years it will definitely be a welcome asset to our community. The open house was arranged by Councillor Cowbourne with Mayor Miller, Robert Fung of the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corp. Dick O’Brien Toronto Conservation Authority and others present to show their support for this project.
I will be attending the next meeting of the Waterfront Trail working committee scheduled for Monday, September 19th to get an update on progress and upcoming work.
On June 18th we held Highland Creek Heritage Day. CCRA is pleased to provide a financial contribution to ensure this annual community event is a success.
In July the summer concert series featured another lineup of outstanding entertainment. CCRA is also pleased to provide a financial contribution for these concerts.
Membership returns are still coming in to Membership Chair Tony Sibley. If you haven’t already purchased yours remember you can do it on line through our web page.
The City has announced completion of the Class Environmental Assessment for the expansion of the F.J. Horgan Water Treatment Plant on the lake near Manse Road. The plan calls for the expansion of the existing plant to meet the projected demand for water from the City of Toronto and York Region. The Environmental Assessment Report is available at the Port Union Library.
Looking ahead to October, our Annual General Meeting will be held on Thurs. October 20th, at
the Port Union Recreation Centre. Some members of this year’s executive have indicated that they will not be standing for election to next year’s executive. Please consider volunteering to become an executive member. We need a strong executive so we can continue to represent you on issues that affect this community while still providing for community events. Show you care about your community by joining the executive.
