Happy New Year to Everyone.

On Saturday January 27th our annual Winterfest will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Port Union Recreation Centre.   CCRA’S representative on the planning and organizing committee is Heather Lemieux who is co-chair along with Barbara Broadley of West Rouge Sports and Rec.  Representatives from Port Union Seniors and the City of Toronto have also worked to plan and organize this event.  This is a wonderful community outing for the whole family.  Please mark the date on your calendars and plan to attend.

Marilyn Hodge our representative on the Community Police Liaison Committee is planning an evening with members of 43 Division to discuss ways to combat crime and other topics of concern in our community.  This event is planned for sometime in the latter part of February.  The date will be announced in our February newsletter.  Plan to attend and voice any concerns you may have about policing of our community and find out what the police are doing to make our community safe.

On March 31 our Events Chair Heather Lemieux along with West Rouge Sports and Rec. is planning a social evening at West Rouge Community Centre.  The exact details and format are still being worked out but mark the date on your calendars.  Further details will be announced in our February newsletter.

Our 2006 membership campaign is winding down.  Membership Chair Tony Sibley reports that membership is down this year by more than 15%, this despite a large increase in the number of households in our community.  I hope this not an indication of growing trend in our community.  Events held throughout the year in our community are the result of a lot of hard work by the volunteers of community groups planning and organizing these events.  Show that you care by supporting your community association.

This month we are launching our redesigned web page.  The web site address is the same as it was www.centennialcra.com.  Thanks to Dr. Joseph Tabri for redesigning this web site for us.  We welcome any comments you may have.  Due to the large number of spam mail received by the executive through the web site we are discontinuing e-mail addresses for the executive on the web page.  We will show the e-mail for the president and communications chair only in the newsletter.  Phone numbers for the executives will be shown on the web site and in the newsletter.

Traffic chair Mike White has contacted the city and asked them to look into the “too short a duration” westbound left turn signal at Port Union and Kingston Road.  The addition of the second westbound left turn lane is now complete but the signal light is now a “left turn only” with a very short duration.  This has resulted in left turn line ups as long as they were before the changes were made to the intersection.  Hopefully the city can correct this problem.
